Plot |
|
A quiet break in
the country turns into a weekend of murder when Richard Hannay and
Reggie Armitage discover they are targets for a demented killer. |
The Ally |
 |
Who else? Reggie Armitage, but he's more
the victim of the "demented killer". He and friends from his regiment
in Africa receive mysterious letters with Shakesperian quotes
predicting death. Hopefully Hannay (or better said, the Hannay girl -
see below - is around to help! |
|
The "Hannay
Girl" |
 |
Simone Angeketell (Serena Gordon) is a
modern woman for her time : member of the Suffragette Movement, and
studied at the university. Thanks to her, Reggie and Hannay will
discover who's behind the letters and the murders. She also knows how
to use a gun, which is very helpful in a Hannay episode. |
|
The Bad Guy |
 |
This guy is the most curious "bad guy"
from the series, because first you have to understand that the series
respect very well the moral standards of the time (when committing
suicide was considered a crime, and being homosexual was a cause of
suicide...).
So
this guy, was the lover of a member of Reggie's regiment in Africa, who
was
|
dishonored
for cowardice (again a crime) and his life was
destroyed when he returned to England, and killed himself. This guy
only wants to revenge the misery of the man he loved and that's why he
tries to murder all the members of the regiment. |

Comments |
This
is one of the best episodes of Hannay. Written by Michael Robson, who
is a genius, the story is intelligent and human, where you can see the
prejudices that existed at the time : women fighting for their rights
were ill-considered and homosexuality was a tabou. |
